Pay Details:

Engineer I - (Grade 57)

Minimum:$1,415.81/ week

Midpoint: $1,769.76

Engineer II - (Grade 58)

Minimum:$1,618.87/ week

Midpoint: $2,023.60

Engineer III - (Grade 59)

Minimum:$1,851.10/ week

Midpoint: $2,313.86

Engineer IV - (Grade 60)

Minimum:$2,075.10/ week

Midpoint: $2,645.75

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm


Job Description:

Job Description Summary:

Under close supervision of the Manager-Electric Line Engineering or designee, performs engineering duties necessary for the completion of the department's goals. Progression towards more autonomous work performance will be expected as experience is gained in electric line design. Duties will be dependent upon departmental workload and may include any or all of the duties described below. This position may supervise Intern employees.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Job Description:

Performs professional engineering work for the Electric Line Department in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the City's electric transmission and distribution system.

What You'll Do

Depending on qualifications and experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Performs general engineering functions in the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities.

  • Design of line extensions to provide electric service to new large-scale commercial and industrial customers.

  • Redesigns existing electrical facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers due to load or system changes, building additions, or other construction activities.

  • Performs engineering design of reinforcement projects, street lighting projects, and preventative maintenance and system power factor improvement projects.

  • Performs engineering design and layout of electric facility adjustments as required for highway improvement projects, sewer projects, and other municipal improvement projects.

What We're Looking For:

Engineer I - Electric Line:

  • An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by ABET is required.

  • Electrical engineering design experience is preferred.

Engineer II - Electric Line:

  • An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by ABET is required.

  • A minimum of two years of electric transmission and/or distribution design experience is required.

  • In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline, and a minimum of four years of recent progressively responsible design experience.

  • A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is required.

Engineer III - Electric Line:

  • An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by ABET is required.

  • A minimum of four years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design experience is required.

  • In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline, and a minimum of six years of recent progressively responsible design experience.

  • A valid Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.

Engineer IV - Electric Line:

  • An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by ABET is required.

  • A minimum of eight years of recent applicable and progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design OR a minimum of three years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design and a minimum of seven years of other recent applicable and progressively responsible design experience is required.

  • A valid Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with or the ability to obtain AutoCAD.

  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts and practices.

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate technical work. Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Work under pressure and meet close deadlines.

Working Conditions:

Duties are primarily performed in an office environment with some outside field work in all weather conditions.

Additional Information:

  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication.

  • Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required.

  • Candidates must be able to work effectively with diverse groups and adapt to evolving technologies and systems.
