CityFlatsHotel Grand Rapids is a uniquely designed 48-room boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown. As a proud member of the Choice Hotels Ascend Collection, we offer guests a one-of-a-kind stay with personalized service and locally inspired design. We are looking for a passionate and experienced General Manager to lead our team and deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Job Summary:
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all hotel operations and ensuring alignment with brand standards. This hands-on leadership role will guide department managers and staff, drive financial performance, and ensure a high level of guest satisfaction and team engagement. The GM will report directly to the Hospitality Director.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily hotel operations, ensuring all departments function efficiently and cohesively
Lead, manage, and support department heads including Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Maintenance
Hire, train, schedule, and develop hotel staff; manage performance and resolve issues professionally
Monitor room inventory, pricing, and third-party OTA listings to optimize revenue
Maintain labor levels in line with hotel occupancy and budget forecasts
Ensure timely completion of maintenance and repairs across the property
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, service, and presentation throughout the hotel
Handle guest complaints and resolve issues to ensure excellent service recovery
Prepare daily and monthly financial reports for the corporate office
Reconcile accounts payable and receivable on a monthly basis
Ensure compliance with all Choice Hotels Ascend Collection brand standards
Support marketing, brand partnerships, and community engagement
Collaborate with the Hospitality Director on operational improvements and strategic planning
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
3 years of hotel or hospitality management experience (General Manager or Assistant GM level)
Strong leadership and communication skills
Experience managing teams across multiple departments
Proficiency in hotel property management systems (PMS), OTA platforms, and Microsoft Office
Knowledge of Choice Hotels systems is a plus
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
