Summary: The Police Officer ensures the security of City Park Conservatory (CPC) patrons, staff, and property by patrolling the park grounds and investigating incidents within the park.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrolling -   85%

  1. Patrols Park 1600-acre grounds in City Park police vehicle or foot  
  2. Protects Park visitors and employees by enforcing federal, state, and local laws and park rules and regulations.
  3. Investigates incidents occurring within the park.
  4. Responds to alarm calls.

 

Safety/Record Keeping -   10%

  1. Maintains vehicle, first aid and maintenance logs in accordance with policy.
  2. Prepares and maintains records and reports pertaining to park activities – incident/accident reports, police reports, and other.

 

Other – 5%

  1. Provides first aid and emergency services for park employees and patrons.
  2. Testifies in court and cooperates with local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys in the arrest and prosecution of individuals.
  3. Works special events within the park as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or GED. 
  • Active, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Any applicant convicted of a felony or under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief of disabilities imposed by the state and federal laws is granted.
  • One year of experience in law enforcement work or college training to substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for the year of experience; any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
  • Evidence of Level 1 POST certification must be submitted at the time of application.
  • Required to qualify annually with a firearm.
  • Must be eligible for bond.

OTHER ABILITES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE:

Must be able to use standard office equipment, including mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone, copier, time clock and motor vehicle.

  • Must possess a prominent level of flexibility and resourcefulness.

Regular talking and the ability to express and exchange ideas by means of language expected. Regular hearing and the ability to perceive the nature of sounds. Constant ability to read, record, or type data quickly and accurately required. 

 

Work Environment: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing this job, the employee is often exposed to outside weather conditions and exposure to temperature fluctuations.  Constant adequate range of motion and mobility is required. The noise level in the work environment is high, medium, and low intensity. Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner required. Constant interaction with guests and co-workers required.
