Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to assist the Detective Division (Special Operations and Investigation Bureau) in identifying suspects, witnesses, and offenders involved in crimes as well as to assist in identifying crime trends, forecasting street violence, and to work with department division commanders to disseminate intelligence.
Analyzing law enforcement data from various sources. Sources include the York City Police Department's records management system, TLO (or other department-paid intelligence research tool), prison data, and social media sources. Considering and analyzing the law enforcement data, the intelligence analyst will identify activity, and trends, and be able to assist in the identification of suspects, witnesses, offenders as well as forecast crime trends that will assist in the staffing and deployment of department personnel. The analyst will be able to compile data into victimology, heat maps, graphs, timetables, and mapping and be able to present this data to division commanders and outside agencies.
Attending internal department meetings to discuss crime trends. Attending the weekly Gun Violence Intervention (GVI) shooting reviews. Attend meetings at the York County District Attorney's Office, Law Enforcement Resource Center, and any other law enforcement agency requested by the Lieutenant.
Essential Functions
Review and research incidents in the police department's records management system
Collect and analyze data from police department's intelligence researching tools.
Review prison transcripts and video calls
Review and document open-source media posts and trends regarding crime in and around York City.
Determine the value of information gathered regarding crime and violence in and around York City.
Comprehend social media posts and trends to assist in forecasting and preventing crime and violence around York City.
Interpret crimes and crimes trends.
Evaluate information for meaning, source reliability, content validity and relevance prior to use and storage.
Evaluate records of communication, such as telephone calls and text messages, cell tower data, etc.
Create and keep a database of intelligence.
Develop timelines, charts, graphs, diagrams, victimology, and maps to determine trends, identify patterns of criminal activity, link individuals and determine structures and relationships.
Create and edit PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
Present intelligence to division commanders and other law enforcement groups.
Summarize all data and intelligence.
Attend meetings, present information to elected officials, department heads, and law enforcement officers and large stakeholder groups, and other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Associate degree in Criminal justice or related field of study. Prefer bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field of study.
Over one (1) year experience
Minimum Acceptable Training And Experience
Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
