The City of Xenia is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Victim Advocate. The Victim Advocate provides direct support, advocacy, and assistance to victims and witnesses of crime. This position works closely with law enforcement, prosecutors, courts and community agencies to ensure victims are informed of their rights, receive needed services, and are supported throughout the criminal justice process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, or related field;
  • Two (2) years of related experience in crisis counseling and/or criminal justice; or
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must be registered as an Advocate (RA) or higher with the Ohio Advocate Network, or apply for and receive RA certification within two (2) years of hire.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages a caseload and provides support and advocacy to crime victims throughout the criminal justice process.
  • Provides crisis response, intervention safety planning, and lethality assessments on a twenty-four (24) hour basis to victims and law enforcement.
  • Responds to law enforcement questions and provides crisis response to victims of crime as called for after-hours.
  • Maintains files for all victims of crime receiving services from the Victim Advocate Division, maintains and provides statistics for client activity including client contacts, types of crime and services provided.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Law Director.
