What are the responsibilities and job description for the Information Technology Specialist position at City of Woodbury?

Under the general direction of the IT Manager, this position is responsible for daily computer operations, setting up new computers, assisting and training computer users, assisting in the selection and installation of new computer systems, maintaining telephone and voice-mail systems, and identifying the need for and implementing new technology. 
 
Hiring range: $34.72 - $39.92 per hour
Full pay range: $34.72 - 50.34 per hourESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Staff Training & Interaction:
  • Act as in-house computer system consultant by providing technical assistance and trouble- shooting specific data processing needs including hardware and software problems.
  • Act as liaison between computer/software vendors and users
  • Act as in-house telephone and voice-mail consultant by providing technical assistance and front-end trouble shooting.

Equipment and Systems:
  • Assist with the configuration and installation of hardware, software and computer supplies.
  • Administer the voice mail and phone systems including procedure documentation, new user setup, security, training, and management reporting.
  • Assist in development, analysis, implementation and maintenance of new and existing software systems and techniques.

 IT Records:
  • Maintain records of data processing difficulties and corrective actions taken.
  • Assist in the invoice and budget monitoring processes.
  • Maintain accurate procedure manuals for step-by-step operations documentation of PC systems, telephone, and voice mail systems.
  • Assist with the identification and tagging of such equipment for tracking in the City’s fixed asset system.

IT Planning, Resource Allocation and System Integrity:
  • Work with the IT staff in developing hardware and software standards, policies, procedures, and long and short range strategic planning for citywide IT needs.
  • Work with the IT staff to research, analyze and recommend new or improved uses of technology within the City’s system.
  • Assist in analyzing user needs on an annual or situational basis and assist in preparation of requests to include with budget requests.
  • Serve as project manager for assigned projects to help departments and divisions find, select, purchase, and implement technical solutions that will improve operations
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned.

Geographic Information System (GIS):
  • Work with GIS Specialist to provide support to GIS users which may include:
    • Provide support for the usage of GIS systems and data
    • Assist in the purchasing of additional software and in the planning for future expansion of  GIS systems

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s degree in the field of business administration, computer science, management information systems, or a related discipline and two years of full-time experience in a dedicated support role administering Microsoft Windows or a minimum of a high school diploma and five years of full-time experience in a dedicated support role administering Microsoft Windows.

Two years of full-time experience (or equivalent) administering systems using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Microsoft Office Specialist certification.

Two years of full-time experience administering Windows Active Directory with a minimum of fifty (50) users.

Certification in or demonstrated experience with standardized project management techniques.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand or sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. 

Hand?eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Employee will be required to use fine motor skills and manual dexterity to manipulate a keyboard and mouse with speed and accuracy; to climb or balance, bend, stoop, crouch or kneel, stretch, reach, push and pull to install computers and related equipment; to lift and carry personal computers, printers and related equipment for short distances while installing or removing; to talk, hear and read to communicate with vendors, troubleshoot system problems, read computer screens and manuals and manage the network.  

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
