The Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the City’s Administrative buildings which include City Hall, Senior Center/Civic Center, Parks & Recreation buildings, Police Department compound, and buildings in the Public Works compound. Duties include surveying each facility to ensure all mechanical systems are functioning properly as well as keeping an eye on the safety and cleanliness of the facilities. Any repairs necessary to maintain City facilities or perform building services are within the scope and the ability of the facility crew will be accomplished, otherwise coordination of contractor services will be arranged. This is a physically demanding role working outside in the elements and must have the ability to drive a City vehicle and safely operate necessary equipment in the department. This is a hands-on position and reports to the Supervisor of Facilities, under the direction of the Director of Facilities & Capital Projects.

  • Performs required maintenance, repairs and renovation work, including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and minor HVAC maintenance
  • Assists with new construction of rooms, small buildings and pavilions
  • Operates and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment to include Work Van, Pick-up’s, Work Trailer, Bucket Truck, etc.
  • Request supplies for facility repairs as necessary
  • Assist with HVAC maintenance and repairs with City vendors
  • Assist with Fire and Safety alarms system maintenance and repairs throughout the City’s Administrative Facilities
  • Must provide support during times of disasters, Hurricanes and City Clean-up after a catastrophic weather or environmental event
  • Request/order cleaning supplies and keep the cleaning storerooms stocked
  • Maintain the recycling container inventory and keep supplies available at City buildings

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials utilized in the maintenance of buildings and structures
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions involved with the trades
  • Ability to operate and work in a bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet
  • Ability to operate a City vehicle and equipment needed for the department, including a forklift
  • Ability to understand and perform work to applicable codes
  • Ability to read, write and follow directions
  • Ability to keep accurate records and reports
  • Skill in using all trade related tools and equipment
  • Must possess a valid FL Driver's License

WORKING HOURS:

  • Standard working hours will be from 7am to 4pm with a 1-hour lunch. These hours can be adjusted by the supervisor as needed
  • Due to special events and maintenance emergencies at the city, additional hours may be required after normal working hours in the evening or on weekends
  • During and after a weather/environmental events additional hours may be required
