The Information Technology Department is seeking an experienced IT Project Coordinator that will be responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and completion of technical projects primarily focused on the areas of infrastructure services, cybersecurity, and system architecture. This position operates under regular supervision and performs complex coordination and direction of enterprise technology projects involving security platforms, next generation firewalls, network and data center architecture, server and endpoint operating systems, and software applications. Excellent communication and business analysis skills are critical components to success in this position, along with the demonstrated ability to perform business needs analysis, conduct technical research, document technical specifications, and prepare project documentation. A successful candidate will routinely interact with technology professionals, staff from other City departments, other governmental agencies, vendors, and industry consultants.This position will be part of the Infrastructure Services Team.  This position will be responsible for evaluating, recommending, and implementing a variety of technologies from third-party vendors.  This includes reviewing and approving all technical specifications prior to the start of all new projects to ensure that they adhere to the City's desktop, programming, database, and security policies and standards. 
 
High level responsibilities will include:
  • Manages all stages of IT projects to include technical research, solution development, planning, implementing, progress monitoring, and reporting. Works with IT management and technical staff to develop project plans and activities with appropriate scope, tasks, resources, milestones, cost, and timelines. Provides all levels of project communications and works with project sponsors or product owners to resolve issues, address changes, develop meaningful reporting, and identify risks. 
  • Works closely with sponsors and subject matter experts to understand, analyze, and document business needs and processes. Coordinates with staff to identify technical solutions that meet business needs based upon established technical and architectural standards. Analyzes systems and processes from a strategic perspective to identify future business needs. 
  • Contributes to ongoing IT project leadership process improvement and provides recommendations for enhancing Project Management Practices. Leads by example and follows industry IT recognized best practices and project management methodologies. Demonstrates a high level of knowledge in technology solutions and project management tools.
  • Leads ad-hoc teams in researching and resolving complex problems with technology used in supported applications and key focus areas.
  • Prepares RFI, RFP, and RFQ documents and participates in the evaluation of responses. 
  • Developing and maintaining expertise and interpersonal skills to meet the changing technology needs of the City of Winston-Salem.
  • Following industry recognized best practices in project management methodologies
Education and Experience:  The preferred candidate will have a bachelor's degree with major coursework in Information Technology, at least 7 years of information technology work experience, and at least 2 years of previous experience in a technology project management role. Industry-accepted IT and/or Project Management certifications are highly desired (e.g. ITIL Foundation, CompTIA A , Network , Security , Project , CySA , CISSP, PMP, CAPM, PMI-ACP, CSM). A thorough knowledge of all phases of project management along with strong skills or understanding in a majority of the areas listed below are required.

  • Project management methodologies (PMI, SCRUM, Agile, Waterfall)
  • General IT Infrastructure knowledge
  • General Cybersecurity knowledge and Risk assessment/analysis skills
  • Business Process Mapping
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with ITIL management disciplines
Special Requirements:
Tasks performed by this position are primarily indoors in an office environment.  A candidate must be able to maneuver consistently within the office area and may be exposed to repetitive motion operations and long periods of sitting.  Work is done primarily Monday through Friday during daytime hours with occasionally scheduled or on-call work on nights and weekends to support production systems and projects.  Most supported sites are within walking distance, but there will be occasions when it becomes necessary to drive and possession of a valid N.C. Driver's license is required.
 
Exemption Status:
This position is "exempt" and is not eligible for overtime.
