Under the limited supervision of the Fleet Services Director, manages the work, operation, and maintenance of the City’s fleet and maintenance staff. Manage related service contracts ensuring vendor accountability and increasing operational effectiveness and efficiency. Perform complex cost-benefit, life cycle, and other analyses to support strategic decision-making. Assist with establishing and implementing policies and procedures to support departmental user accountability for the proper use and care of vehicles and equipment. Allocate and oversee the work of approximately 36 full-time staff members.
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Ten years of increasingly responsible experience in public administration, business administration, or related work and supervision, with 5 years working in fleet maintenance, including two years in a supervisory or management position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in fleet management, business, administrative management, public administration, or another related field. Considerable experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Assist in managing, planning, and supervising fleet management operations, ensuring the safe, dependable, and efficient use of City vehicles and equipment by coordinating quality and cost-effective procurement, and repair services.
- Assist the Director of Fleet Services in Administering the vehicle management policy and implementing fleet regulations.
- Oversees the daily operations of the heavy equipment, light equipment, parts warehouse, service writer and parts divisions.
- Ensures appropriate customer services levels and is the primary customer service representative for the department.
- Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for Fleet services including the maintenance and repair of all light, medium and heavy equipment.
- Manage accurate fleet asset inventory; initiate requisitions for replacement inventory to ensure appropriate levels. Examine data for the fleet to determine replacement equipment; manages and review fleet software (FASTER); maintain accurate vehicle data; prepare reports on fleet assets.
- Monitor requisitions for new equipment and make recommendations based on analysis of industry best practices.
- Manage, coordinate, and evaluate maintenance and repair services for all vehicles and mechanical equipment; track preventative maintenance requirements and notify appropriate personnel when services are due; ensure the maintenance of accurate and complete division records.
- Ensures that maintenance work is properly performed and is the quality control administrator for the department.
- Participate in the selection and evaluation of division personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance reviews; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
- Maintain and manage the cost of maintenance, state inspections, and other records.
- Manage, plan, and coordinate the services and activities of maintenance operations within the fleet division: recommend appropriate service and staff levels; coordinate payroll with administrative staff.
- Oversees technical training and safety programs for maintenance shop operations.
- Other duties as assigned or designated necessary.

- ASE Certified (preferred).
- Certified Fleet manager (CFM) (preferred)
- Ability to work long hours beyond the normal work schedule as needed or in times of emergency situations.
