Job Summary
The Thrive Program Director will direct and supervise daily operations of The City of Winooski’s state-licensed Thrive After School and Summer Program, which provides school-age children (grades K – 5) in Winooski with an enriching experience during out-of-school time throughout the year. The Thrive Program Director will work collaboratively with the Thrive Program Assistants to develop and implement age-appropriate enrichment activities, set up and maintain a safe environment that complies with licensing regulations, and oversee daily operations and staffing.

Duties

  • Serve as the on-site Program Director, including using strategies that are consistent with JFK Elementary School practices to maintain a positive, enriching, and fun environment for all youth participants. This will include assuring adherence to all applicable State licensing regulations as well as directing staff’s work on a day-to-day basis. This will require being on site at program at least 50% of the programs' operating hours and will include regular direct service with youth.
  • A curriculum of enriching activities that develops both academic and social skills will be developed, planned, and implemented by the staff team. This will include assuring adherence to all applicable State licensing regulations.
  • Accurate, detailed records will be maintained to help the program to track a variety of outcomes, including enrollment, attendance, finances, and participant satisfaction. This will include assuring adherence to all applicable State licensing regulations.
  • Staff meetings and check-ins with supervisees will be productive, constructive, and positive means by which to recommend program improvements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure professional development. At minimum, this will include meeting with all supervisees monthly and as a full staff on a quarterly basis. This will also include ensuring “Individual Professional Development Plans” and employee records are maintained according to State licensing regulations.
  • Work with the Community Services Director to prepare and manage the annual budget for programs within the constraints of the approved budget. Grant requests and reports
  • Minor Administrative tasks such as time sheets are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of the City of Winooski by identifying concerns and offering solutions
  • Provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Support the City’s commitment to equity and cultural competency
  • Encourage and participate in professional development and training activities
  • Demonstrate commitment to the City Team buy learning about other departments and working collaboratively in cross functional areas
  • Work in alignment with the City's Strategic Vision Plan, and maintain an active role in the team effort required to achieve those goals.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possess a BA, BS or Associate’s degree, or comparable work experience, and have one of the following:
  • at least ten months’ direct work experience with school age children (twenty months preferred) or
  • Vermont On‐The‐Job Training certificate or
  • Vermont Afterschool Professional Credential or
  • Vermont Program Director Credential or
  • Vermont Teacher Licensure
  • Master’s Degree in a youth‐related field
  • Ability to work with children in a calm and effective manner and to execute the policies of a childcare program.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33.33 - $35.90 per hour
