Duties and Responsibilities:
- On assigned shift, operate a police vehicle, bicycle, or walk to observe for criminal and traffic violations
- Look for suspicious activity and check on suspicious persons
- Check on disturbances of law and order and arrest suspects who violate the law
- Write and report incidents
- Respond to radio dispatches and answer calls/complaints
- Serve warrants and testify in court
- Other duties as assigned
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to be a certified police officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia within twelve (12) months of date of appointment as a law enforcement officer
- 20-40 uncorrected vision and no proven symptoms of being color blind
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors during various hours such as nights, weekends and holidays
