Maintenance

CLASS TITLE:  Maintenance Worker – City Hall/Police Department

This position requires the ability to perform routine building and grounds maintenance and custodial work, under the direction of the HR/Risk Manager, City Manager, Police Chief or their designee. Work is checked in progress and upon completion.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1. Sweeps and mops floors daily.
2. Buffs, strips, waxes and burnishes floors as needed.
3. Vacuums carpets, spot cleans and shampoos as needed.
4. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms daily.
5. Cleans door glass, windows and blinds as needed.
6. Cleans/shampoos floor mats and changes as needed.
7. Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and ballast.
8. Tests exit lights and changes light bulbs and batteries.
9. Dusts desks, cabinets, chairs and tables, baseboard, etc.
10. Washes walls, doors and window facings.
11. Cleans pictures and wall hangings.
12. Cleans and sanitizes telephone sets.
13. Cleans kitchenette area.
14. Defrost refrigerators as needed.
15. Reports needed repairs.
16. Makes minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs as needed and advises when a contractor is needed.
17. Sweeps sidewalks at front and rear of buildings.
18. Keeps entrances and exits clear and dry.
19. Weeds plant beds, trims bushes and shrubs, and waters as needed.
20. Picks up litter in parking areas and plant islands.
21. Changes filters as needed and performs minor maintenance on the HVAC system.
22. Clears ice and snow from sidewalks and parking areas.
23. Sets up conference rooms for meetings.
24. Transports supplies to using departments.
25. Move records from offices to storage.
26. Paints as needed.
27. Practices safety in all activities and reports potential hazards.
28. May be required to work after hours in emergencies.
29. May be required to be assigned to other departments when necessary.
30. Performs related duties as assigned.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of eighth grade with at least one year experience in building and grounds maintenance, custodial field or related field giving knowledge to function effectively as a maintenance worker.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to read labels, warnings and follow directions for mixing cleaning chemicals. General knowledge of electricity, carpentry and plumbing helpful.  Ability to organize work; Establish and maintain a working relationship with other employees, supervisors and general public and must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.  Ability to practice and follow all safety precautions; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; and Ability to perform moderately strenuous tasks

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60-75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
