The hiring range for this position is $52,321.52 (minimum salary) to $72,054.69 (midpoint of range) dependent upon qualifications.
This position is responsible for performing mechanical and supervisory duties in the maintenance, modification, overhaul, repair, and installation of parts and equipment. The purpose of this position is to install, maintain, and repair wastewater treatment plant equipment. Successful performance ensures the effective and efficient operation of wastewater treatment facilities.

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping and climbing. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. The work is typically performed at wastewater treatment plant facilities. The employee is exposed to noise, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious disease and irritating chemicals. The work may be performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather and requires the use of protective devices.

Job Responsibilities
Major Duties
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures on plant and lift station equipment.
- Rebuilds and installs pumps, motors, seals, bearings, and shafts; changes oil and adds grease.
- Assists in the installation of control systems; identifies electrical problems in various types of equipment.
- Install flow monitors and air supply systems.
- Repairs and installs water lines.
- Repairs small engines, lawn and garden equipment, and portable generators.
- Installs and maintains chemical feeding systems.
- Maintains inventory, maintenance, and repair records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Guidelines include federal, state and local regulations, plant standard operating procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

Education/Experience Requirements
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated and a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for water or wastewater treatment or distribution as appropriate.
- Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
- Skill in performing mathematical computations.
- Skill in the use of a computer.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in the supervision of personnel.
