When assigned to the Fitness Center, the position will be responsible for exerting up to 50 lbs. regularly and 100 lbs. occasionally, as well as demonstrating a variety of exercises for patrons.
Working Conditions
Positions generally require work indoors in a recreation or neighborhood center and/or outdoors in a park, recreation area, or golf course.

Typical Tasks
- Plan, promote, and implement athletics program for community. Coordinate with Athletics Supervisor to continue existing programs of t-ball, basketball, City employee leagues, and flag football, and implement new programs.
- Make and distribute practice and game schedules.
- Send regular emails to update parents about schedules etc.
- Handle requests, feedback, and complaints from parents and coaches.
- Host player evaluations and drafts for basketball leagues.
- Recruit volunteer coaches and program volunteers from community and local college and university.
- Maintain equipment and jersey inventory and recommend equipment, jersey, and medal and/or trophy purchases.
- Oversee rentals and reservations of Maides Park athletic facilities.
- Create and post a monthly gym schedule and oversee gym floor cleaning and maintenance.
- Coordinate with after school programs and outside agencies at Maides Park to provide athletic activities.
- Schedule open gym times and coordinate with Davis Center Supervisor to schedule staffing for open gym.
Education and Experience
Associate's degree or higher in closely related field of study OR equivalent combination of education and the experience required below.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid and AED certification upon hire.
- The selected candidate will be required to complete a post-offer driving history, criminal history, education check, credit check, drug screen, Personal and Professional Reference Checks, and Fingerprint-based state and national criminal record check
- This position has been identified to interact with children and must comply with NC G.S. 153A-94.2(b) requires an applicant for employment that "works with children in any capacity, must require the applicant, if offered the position, to be subject to a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI.” These checks must be conducted in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26 (Download PDF reader), the statute which authorizes the SBI to provide a fingerprint-based state and national criminal record check to cities and counties.

- NC Local Government Retirement System - All benefits eligible employees make a mandatory 6% contribution every pay period.
- Deferred Compensation – The city contributes an amount equal to 4.5% of the annual salary to a 401(k) plan regardless of employee contribution. Employees may choose to contribute additional money to the 401(k) or 457 deferred compensation plans, without a match from the City, within the IRS guidelines.
