The City of Williston is seeking an Intern for the Engineering Department for the period of May 2026 through August 2026. (Dates are flexible)
Perform semi-technical work in assisting engineering staff in data collection, review, investigation, and documentation of plans, construction, and use of public services.
Essential Duties:- Help on-site Engineers with any project monitoring or field work-related needs
- ND One-Call Utility Notice Reviews for excavation work
- Data collection, review, and entry
- Surveying and Design in AutoCAD (as needed)
- Supervisory Meetings
- Project Status Reporting & Updates
- Public Input Meeting Attendance
- Building Plan and Plat Review
- Safety Training
- Experience reading and interpreting engineered plans and drawings
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with GPS Data Collection or Trimble Survey equipment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Work Environment & Physical Demands: Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. The employee is subject to both internal and external environmental conditions. Employees may be subject to working near traffic and to noise in the presence of heavy construction equipment, but generally free from additional work hazards.
Learning Outcomes –
1. By the close of the internship the student will increase their general understanding/skills in the following:
- Civil engineering from the municipal perspective on public works projects. Interns will be exposed to public works projects such as water main replacement, sewer and water main construction, and street construction/rehabilitation.
2. Complete the following tasks and or projects:
- Tasks performed will include construction oversight, cost estimates, plan review, and information gathering.
- Data analysis and report writing may be part of the assignment. Stormwater management and inspections may be part of this program.
3. Gain professional development/awareness in the following areas:
- Civil Engineering/Public Works/Construction Management/Municipal Government
