Examples of Work Performed
- May handle money; may process, track in excel documents, and/or transport valuable documents and/or records of transactions such as Housing & Community Services mail.
- Answers telephones and/or greets visitors, maintains and checks Housing & Community Services email inbox, gives information, takes messages, directs clients to appropriate Housing & Community Services staff, and schedules routine events such as Housing Choice Voucher Hearings and Private Conferences.
- May maintain customer accounts and related records in online databases: posts payments, prepares and sends out closing or special bills, checks the accuracy of customer billing against controls and prepares routine transaction reports, create Housing Choice Voucher file folders.
- May issue various types of licenses and permits; compute fees; issue receipts of payment; create work orders from call-ins by maintenance staff; provide appropriate forms to walk in clients
- May keep records of time worked by individual employees, distributes time shown to proper work categories, posts payroll information to individual records, and maintains related personnel records.
- May maintain operating and production records, accounts, and financial statements.
- Operates office machines such as multi-line telephone system, copy machine, and fax machine; may type memoranda, letters, forms and other documents such as frequently asked questions and website content.
- Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work
- Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain complex clerical records.
- Ability to understand applicable policies and procedures and to exercise good judgment in making decisions in accordance with ordinances, codes, and regulations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to write legibly.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to stay seated for extended periods of time.
- Ability to climb ladders and to bend, turn, and reach as necessary to get equipment or supplies.
- May require attainment of passing score on pre-employment typing test.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Experience and Training
Required Experience and Training
- A Highschool diploma.
- One year of experience in public-facing roles that involve significant customer interaction and maintaining accurate records.
- One year of experience in handling cash transactions, including balancing and reconciling cash drawers.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
- Attainment of passing scores on pre-employment tests. Candidates with the required experience and training will be required to take the following assessments:
- Customer Service Mindset Survey
- Microsoft Excel 2013 - Normal User
- Microsoft Word 2013 - Normal User
Preferred Experience and Training
- One year experience managing a high volume of telephone calls on multiple lines.
- One year experience in a municipal or government setting.
