Position Summary
This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing youth and adult athletic programs for the City of Wheat Ridge. This role focuses on creating safe, inclusive, and engaging sports experiences that encourage skill development, teamwork, and community connection. The coordinator manages a variety of recreational sports offerings, ensuring smooth operations from registration through season-end. This position also works closely with coaches, participants, parents, and city staff to uphold program standards and support positive community engagement. This position also oversees the daily operations of the Anderson Building, ensuring the facility is safe, clean, and well-maintained for programs, rentals, and public use.

Schedule: This position typically operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, regular evening and weekend coverage is expected to support athletic programs, events, and facility operations, including during peak seasons or special events. Flexibility in scheduling is essential.
Position Responsibilities
Athletics
Oversees the development, implementation, marketing and evaluation of various athletic programs on an ongoing basis to ensure quality service. Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to:
- Child development sports programs
- Middle school sports programs
- Racquet sports
- Adult sports leagues
- Assign sports officials for youth and adult leagues
- Assisting with field management (with occasional weekend or evening oversight)
- Evaluating and developing new program(s)
- Prepare Activity Guide submissions for all youth and adult sports classes
Facility
- Oversees and manages the Anderson Building (satellite recreation facility). Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the overall operation of the Anderson Building
- Hire, train, evaluate and manage variable (part time) Facility Assistants who operate the Anderson Building and oversee onsite functions while the building is open to the public
- Coordinate use of building space for recreation programs and private rentals
- Develop and maintain schedules for the gymnasium, Fitness room, classroom and other spaces in the Anderson Building
- Oversee all reservations for rentals, including booking rental groups, communicating with renters and billing
- Oversee training and ongoing supervision of building staff in the use of RecTrac at the Anderson Building front desk
- Train staff on the When-to-Work staff scheduling software and oversee WTW schedules for the building
- Work closely with Aquatics staff during seasonal use of the outdoor pool and Anderson Building locker rooms
Administrative & Other Duties
- Recruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, coach and train part time and volunteer team members. Maintain all necessary forms, paperwork and other program indicators; maintains accurate records on all aspects of programs and related team members.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the department's RecTrac registration software, for the purpose of managing program registrations, collection of drop-in fees and purchase of passes, compiling budget and revenue information, adjusting building use fees and monitoring building schedules
- Ensure that staff are compliant in a variety of comprehensive trainings, including First Aid/CPR/AED, Anderson Building Operations Manual, C.A.R.E. Customer Service training and other trainings as assigned.
- Assist the Athletics Supervisor with annual budget preparation for Anderson Building and Athletics budgets.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings, supervisory sessions, trainings and conferences.
- Respond to public inquiries, complaints, and requests for service.
- Other duties assigned as appropriate by the position
Education and Qualifications
- Education and Training: Bachelor's degree in recreation preferred with emphasis in appropriate study or have a degree in a related ?eld (physical education, sports administration, etc.).
- Experience: Two (2) years' experience in related field.
- Supervisory experience of part-time team members.
- Substitutions – education for experience, experience for education or a combination of the two.
- Infant/Child/Adult CPR, AED and First Aid certifications required within 45 days of hire.
- Background check is required.
- A valid driver’s license and safe driving record throughout employment
Vocational Competency
- Must have knowledge of the operation of athletics equipment and facilities and understand safety requirements and procedures.
Technology
- Previous experience or ability to quickly learn Rec Trac, TimeClock Plus, ADG, and other city/online systems and software including When to Work.

- Must have ability to coordinate, organize, prioritize, and record many tasks demonstrating excellent organizational skills.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the direct supervision of the assigned Recreation Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Exercises general oversight of various levels of variable team members assigned to Athletics and Facilities including variable and seasonal employees.
INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION:
Work is performed within authorized limits prescribed by the supervisor and/or policy. Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, handling deviations from standard methods, resolving problems and handling emergencies. Finished work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and adherence to deadlines. Supervisor is available to assist in solving problems.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environmental Conditions - Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. Work involves working closely with others and occasionally working alone. Work environment may, depending on area, involve frequent exposure to irritating chemicals, machinery and its moving parts, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, dust, dirt, heat, cold, fumes, odors, noise, wetness, humidity, solvents, oils, and gases.
Physical - Work requires a high degree of manual skill; needs the ability to hear, focus on close work, and use hands to fingers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, crouch or stoop, reach, climb, lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing less than 24 lbs.
