GENERAL PURPOSE: Responsible for the instruction and promotion of various types of fitness programs, individual and group fitness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and level.

Develop appropriate tools necessary to offer quality and provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in use of support materials.

Monitor participants and their ability to participate and ensure their attire is applicable to properly perform, i.e., shoes, etc., if applicable.

Provide a safe environment for all participants and enforce all general building policies.

Complete any necessary reports and forms, i.e., Incident Reports, Health Forms, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.

Attend scheduled meetings as required and responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence.

Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepare lesson plans, organize relative equipment.

Required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction as appropriate.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

American Red Cross Adult CPR, AED, & First Aid certifications are required within 60 days from date of hire.

Fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization such as ACE, AFFA, NETA, AAAI, ASFA or ACSM and/or other specialty certifications/training is required based on the area of instruction.

Knowledge of principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation, rules, and regulations

Knowledge of the cardiovascular system, human anatomy, exercise science, and a variety of resistance training programming and injury prevention.

Skills in public relations, operation of necessary equipment and must be versatile in all developmental stages.

Ability to plan, organize, instruct, supervise assigned program, control large groups of people, follow instructions, and remain current on the trends of the industry

Must communicate effectively, analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper courses of action to be taken

Ability to work with little or no supervision, analyze and correct facility safety hazards
-
Willingness to learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
HOURS OF WORK, LOCATION, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is part-time and hours will vary according to class needs. Performed in an indoor setting where the incumbent may be subject to noise and distraction; requires extended periods of hearing and speaking in a loud voice for up to an hour at a time; requires public relations skills in handling concerns and complaints; entails working closely with others and working with little to no supervision; requires excellent organizational/time management skills. Requires muscular exertion and/or physical strain and frequent concentration on an activity where the flow of work is intermittent; requires the ability to use hands to fingers, step, reach, climb, bend, stoop, crouch and occasionally lift objects weighing less than 24 lbs. Use of telephone, copier, other office equipment and equipment necessary to teach and adhere to required policies and procedures.
