Department: Water Treatment Plant
Location: City of Westminster
Schedule: Full-time, 3rd Shift (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 40 hours/week
Pay: Starting at $17.76/hour plus $2.67/hour shift differential
Includes weekend and holiday rotation
Are you passionate about science, engineering, or environmental sustainability? The City of Westminster is looking for an enthusiastic Plant Operator to join our team at the Water Treatment Plant.
What You’ll Do
- Learn to operate and monitor water treatment systems to produce high-quality potable water.
- Perform basic laboratory testing and water quality analysis every two hours to ensure compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
- Record and interpret data from gauges, meters, and digital systems.
- Collect water samples from various sites (wells, streams, reservoirs, and customer locations).
- Work alongside experienced operators who will mentor you as you develop new technical skills.
- On-the-job training and career growth opportunities leading to certification as a Water Treatment Operator.

Education Requirements:
- A high school diploma or GED (college coursework in science, environmental studies, or engineering a plus).
- A valid Class C driver’s license.
- Curiosity, reliability, and a desire to learn new technical and environmental skills.
- Ability to obtain a Temporary Class IV Water Treatment Certification from the State of Maryland within three (3) years of hire (promotion to Certified Operator upon completion).
- Willingness to obtain a Class B restricted CDL license within one (1) year on the job.
