POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Electrical Inspector is responsible for performing skilled inspection work. This position secures and maintains compliance with state and local codes and ordinances regulating the installation of electrical wiring, apparatus, or equipment for electrical light, heat or power within the City. Other responsibilities include planning examinations and inspections of a variety of residential, commercial and industrial electrical installations and equipment within the City to ascertain compliance with applicable state and local codes and ordinances.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

Work is frequently performed indoors and outdoors and occasionally under extreme temperatures. Frequent hearing is needed to provide a high level of communication and customer service to contractors through spoken word in a noisy construction environment.

- Inspects new and existing residential, commercial and industrial electrical installations and equipment for compliance with applicable State and local codes and ordinances
- Issues correction notices where electrical installations or equipment are found to be defective or in violation of applicable codes and ordinances
- Makes recommendations on correct methods of installation
- Reviews electrical plans and specifications for compliance with applicable state and local codes and ordinances
- Confers with electrical contractors regarding the design of new electrical installations as well as the alteration of existing electrical installations within the City
- Possesses a valid driver's license and operates a City motor vehicle in a safe and responsible manner
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance
- Works independently on field inspections and makes decisions exercising technical judgment; consults with a technical superior on more difficult and unusual cases
- Submits work to periodic checks and reviews by a technical superior
- Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports

- Journeyman or Master Electrician license from the Colorado State Electrical Board
- Experience as a Journeyman or Master Electrician in a wide variety of electrical installation work
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record

The position of Electrical Inspector is physical in nature and involves:
- Constant standing and walking on uneven terrain in various conditions to perform inspections; constant squatting, bending and kneeling to perform inspections at various sites
- Frequent sitting to write reports and drive to and from inspection sites; frequent twisting to inspect site structure and electrical wiring
- Occasional crawling to inspect multi-level structures; occasional climbing and balancing on ladders, stairs, framing and step ladders at unprotected heights to look for structural hazards; occasional reaching overhead and below shoulder to manipulate tools and equipment
- Frequent light grasp, hand manipulation and handling needed to use equipment; occasional firm grasp is needed to manipulate tools
- Frequent stepping up/down to get in and out of vehicles, trenches and foundations; frequent actuate mechanism needed to safely operate vehicles
- Frequent use of far acuity to detect hazards; constant use of near acuity to write reports and perform office tasks
- Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds 100 feet to move ladders from vehicle to inspection site; occasional pushing/pulling of up to20 pounds to open garage doors and overhead doors
