JOB TITLE: Concessions and Aquatics Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Operations Director, the Facility Specialist will oversee daily operations of the Veterans Memorial Pool, Shadow Wood Splash Pad, and the Park District’s warming houses. As well as oversee the Park District’s concession daily operations. Under the supervision of the Rustad Facility Supervisor, this position will provide weekend coverage of the Rustad Recreation Center.

SPHERE OF DAILY DUTIES:
This position includes scheduled on-site weekend coverage at the Rustad Recreation Center, typically one weekend per month, with the schedule determined by operational needs.
Depending on the Park District's operational needs, this position may be required to be available on nights and weekends to attend to Concessions, Aquatics, or Warming House needs.
Concessions:
- Direct the operation of the concession stands at the Rustad Recreation Center (1), Veterans Memorial Arena (1), Veterans Memorial Pool (1), Young Field (1), Elmwood (2), Warming Houses (4), and all special events as follows:
- Cash management, reporting, and collections, including zeroing out all startup and backup money bags.
- Record, analyze, and report concessions-related data.
- Maintain and track inventory and expiration dates.
- Determine menus and pricing (cost recovery).
- Hire and train staff and manage timecards.
- Establish and follow standards for cleaning and maintaining equipment.
- Schedule and supervise staff.
- Maintain stands according to ND Department of Health standards and conduct regular inspections.
- Order, pick up, and replenish stand supplies.
- Any additional duties assigned by the Operations Director.
Aquatics:
- Direct the operation of the Veterans Memorial Pool and Shadow Wood Splash Pad:
- Record, analyze, and report aquatics-related data.
- Cash management, reporting, and collection, including zeroing out all startup money bags.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards, attendants, and seasonal aquatics staff; conduct ongoing performance evaluations and coaching.
- Schedule, supervise staff, and manage timecards.
- Review certifications and coordinate & hold trainings.
- Maintain strict safety standards, enforce pool rules, and ensure compliance with ND Department of Health aquatic regulations.
- Ensure all staff are trained in CPR, First Aid, and lifeguard rescue procedures; lead emergency drills and maintain readiness for real-time incidents.
- Monitor and adjust chemical levels, maintain filtration systems, and document water-quality testing in accordance with state requirements.
- Assist with pool-specific special events, rentals, and community programming; coordinate with recreation staff as needed.
- Any additional duties assigned by the Operations Director.
Winter Warming Houses:
- Direct the operation of the Park District's four (4) winter warming houses:
- Schedule, supervise staff, and manage timecards.
- Record, analyze, and report warming house-related data.
- Hire and train staff.
- Any additional duties assigned by the Operations Director.
Rustad Recreation Center:
- Direct the operation of the Rustad Recreation Center on the scheduled weekend rotation.
- Maintain facility/grounds in a clean, safe, sanitary condition.
- Perform custodial duties as required and assigned.
- Work and perform duties without supervision or direction; plan and execute daily activities to achieve goals.
- Assist patrons by answering questions, providing published literature, or directing them to the appropriate staff member or community resource.
- Manage incoming telephone calls and direct messages and calls to the appropriate staff.
- Assist as needed with Front Desk duties as well as public relations and general customer service duties.
- Operate a variety of maintenance equipment.
- Coordinate, supervise, and assign work to part-time staff.
- Supervise court/turf/room rentals, birthday parties, and all other activities that take place in facility/grounds.
- Any additional duties assigned by Facility Supervisor.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, and other City departments, subordinates, vendors, contractors, external government agencies, and organizations.
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Possess a basic knowledge of computers and the skills to use this tool in the application of data processing and communication. (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR/AED, and First Aid (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification
- Knowledge of pool chemistry, filtration systems, and aquatic safety standards.
- Experience managing seasonal staff teams.
- Experience in aquatic facility operations, lifeguard supervision, or recreation management.
- American Red Cross CPR Instructor certification.
Work Environment:
- Primary office location is within the Rustad Recreation Center.
- Travel to other district sites, including outdoor facilities, may be required (parks, maintenance facility, arena, activity shelters, etc.)
- Must be able to work in a frequently changing environment with interruptions. Work involves standard office equipment including computers, phones, and photocopiers.
- Occasional evening, weekend, and special event work may be required.
