Pay Rate:

$35–$44 per game, depending on experience

Age Requirement:

Season Schedule:

Spring: Mid-April through late June

Fall: Mid-August through mid-October
Game Schedule:

Monday–Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Early games can be requested

Flexible schedule — work as little as 1 night or up to 4 nights per week

Game length is 80–90 minutes (arrival required 20 minutes early)

Peruque Valley Park, approximately two miles southwest of Wentzville
Position Overview:
Umpires officiate youth baseball and softball games for players ages 7–15 (younger age groups play earlier games). This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy sports, mentoring youth, and working in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

Training provided, including online materials and virtual meetings

Confidence and ability to make fair, consistent calls

Successful completion of a background check (provided at no cost)
This is an independent contractor position and is not considered an employee of the City of Wentzville. Contractors will receive a 1099 for work performed and are not eligible to participate in the City of Wentzville's benefits programs.

Qualifications:Essential & Ancillary Job Duties
- Officiate and control games, events, and competitions in a confident, appropriate manner.
- Ensure all participants understand and comply with game rules and assess penalties when needed.
- Make game calls with confidence and knowledge of league rules.
- Keep track of event start times, and start or stop play as necessary.
- Make sure the teams have the appropriate equipment and inspect both players and equipment for any issues.
- Arrive on time for contracted work.
- Deliver excellent customer service to participants, coaches and spectators.
- Assist with game setup and breakdown.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Qualifications & Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- One year playing, coaching or umpiring baseball/softball at any level desired
- Ability to crouch, sprint, stand, or jog for extended periods during gameplay.
- Ability to view violations and infractions accurately during gameplay.
- Ability to communicate the rules clearly in a non-confrontational manner, and settle disputes among players as well as handle stressful situations that may arise with players, coaches or parents.
- Ability to quickly make decisions on infractions and other calls
- Maintain strong character and unquestionable integrity.
- Ability to work with others to come to a mutual decision on rulings, and contribute to the development and educational experience of the team members.
