Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for maintenance of City parks and park facilities in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs grounds keeping, facilities maintenance and general construction including swimming and wading pools, sports fields, parks, cemetery, building and street-side landscaping.
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and hand and power tools, including but not limited to pick-up trucks, backhoes, graders, loaders, trenchers, push mowers, large riding mowers, weed eaters, edger’s, drills and snow blowers.
- Performs excellent internal and external customer service. Interacts effectively with the public to answer questions, provide assistance and direction. Works closely and collaboratively with contractors on park improvement projects.
- Plants, transplants, prunes and trims trees and shrubs. Inspects planting areas. Recommends proper type, amount and best location of trees, flowers and shrubs.
- Maintains lawns and ensures quality standards are met. Performs turf maintenance, sod laying, trimming, raking, weeding, edging and turf mowing. Removes and hauls debris and leaves.
- Clears flower beds of weeds and debris.
- Repairs and maintains irrigation systems. Installs pipes, valves, sprinkler heads and other components.
- Mixes and applies pesticides and fertilizers in accordance with all applicable regulations, including operating spray application equipment on grass, trees and plants.
- Maintains Park restrooms, shelters and facilities. Picks up garbage and litter, sweeps and washes floors, cleans and sanitizes, maintains lighting, empties trash receptacles and removes snow and ice. Performs painting, vandalism repair and basic plumbing, carpentry and concrete repair.
- Monitors and maintains an organized, clean and safe work environment. Performs general clean up tasks throughout shift.
- Adheres to established safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment as required.
- Ensures compliance with instructions, policies, procedures and legal requirements.
- Documents, and maintains complete and concise records of, maintenance and repairs.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of full-time equivalent experience performing grounds keeping and basic construction. Public Park maintenance experience preferred.
- Current WA State Class A CDL (tanker endorsement/air brake restriction removed).
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within 12 months, a WA State Pesticide Applicator License.
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector and Aquatic Facility Operator certifications preferred.
