Job Opening: Waynesville Central Dispatch Telecommunicator
The City of Waynesville is accepting applications for a Central Dispatch Telecommunicator. This position serves as a critical link between the public and emergency services by receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatching police, fire, and other emergency personnel as needed. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and committed to public service.
Position: Dispatcher I
Status: Full-Time (Shift Work Required)
Location: City of Waynesville Central Dispatch
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Receive, prioritize, and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service
Dispatch police, fire, and other emergency personnel using radio and computer-aided dispatch systems
Obtain and accurately document critical information from callers
Monitor radio traffic and maintain communication with field units
Enter, update, and retrieve information from law enforcement databases
Maintain detailed and accurate records of calls and dispatch activity
Follow established policies, procedures, and protocols
Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Ability to type accurately and efficiently
Strong verbal communication and listening skills
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations
Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
Willingness to work flexible schedules, including holidays and weekends
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in dispatch, communications, or public safety
Familiarity with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
Knowledge of local geography
Emergency medical or public safety training certifications
