What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Library Assistant - Youth Services - part time position at City of Watauga?
- Provides patrons, as needed, with information about programs and services available in the Youth Department.
- Assists with story times and programs, requiring originality and creativity.
- Provides customer-focused reference and reader’s advisory service, as well as instruction on how use of the Library’s catalog.
- Assists with returning materials to the shelves.
- Designs and assembles book and wall displays.
- Interprets Library policies and procedures for the public.
- Assists in the supervision of Teen Volunteers.
- May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
- Demonstrates ability to tactfully interact with children and their families.

Scope of Supervision
Works under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian.
Education or Training: H.S. Diploma or GED. Some college preferred. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License. Recent experience working with children in elementary and middle school levels is preferred.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Possible exposure to irate citizens.

- Knowledge of Library Policies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, the general public, supervisors, and employees.
- Ability to use the automated Library Catalog to locate materials.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in using the Internet for research.
- Skill in providing exceptional customer service in person, by email and by telephone.
