What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Center Helper position at City of Wasilla?
This position performs customer service, custodial, cashiering, and other various duties at the Curtis D. Menard Sports Center. Non-regular, hourly position working varied times within the hours of 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on weekdays and 9:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekends or as needed.
The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.
- Guides visitors and patrons throughout the Menard Sports Center, providing assistance and information as needed.
- Collects admission payments, processes transactions using the Point-of-Sale system, and handles general receptionist duties, including answering phones and assisting with inquiries.
- Supports Menard Sports Center programs, including birthday party packages, events, and various activities.
- Assists with activity registrations and issues locker room keys to facility users.
- Sells punch cards for activities and assists with rental skate check-out and return, ensuring skates are sanitized and maintained.
- Prepares facility areas for events and activities by setting up and tearing down equipment such as toys for turf time, Learn To Skate, public skate and other program needs.
- Restocks brochures, updates signs, and maintains display information throughout the Sports Center.
- Monitors facility usage and ensures compliance with City of Wasilla and facility rules, communicating them effectively to patrons when necessary.
- Assists with special projects and other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Safe operation and maintenance of office equipment.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) purpose, use, and maintenance.
- Computer software consistent for this position.
- Administrative policies and procedures of the City.
- The City’s and Department’s operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices.
Skill in:
- Organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
Ability to:
- Ability to maintain and reconcile a cash drawer.
- Ability to work with staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
- Understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
- Communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in English in both written and verbal form.
- Interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, and general correspondence.
- Work the allocated hours of the position and responds after hours if needed.
Minimum Experience: Previous cash handling and reservation taking experience preferable.
Other Requirements:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Outlook
- Must obtain a valid State of Alaska Driver's License by time of hire.
