What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Center Facility Crewmember position at City of Wasilla?
This position performs custodial and labor duties at the Curtis D. Menard Sports Center, supporting various operations under the guidance of the Facility Operator or Facility Supervisor. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down for events and activities, performing general custodial cleaning, and assisting staff with additional tasks as needed.
The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.
- Performs general custodial tasks, including floor maintenance, trash removal, window cleaning, and restroom sanitation.
- Removes or maintains snow and ice from sidewalks and building entrances with shovels, sand or salt to maintain safe access for patrons.
- Assists with landscaping tasks such as raking leaves, weeding and trash collecting around the facility.
- Assists with skate rentals by checking out and returning skates, sanitizing them, and performing basic skate maintenance.
- Prepares various facility areas for events and activities, including setup and teardown of tables, chairs, staging or rented equipment as required.
- Support Sports Center Facility Operators with ice re-surfacing tasks such as tipping & setting nets, filling “Zamboni” with water, clearing snow or water, clear ice rink of users and secure rink doors.
- Provides assistance to visitors and patrons by guiding them to and around the Menard Sports Center.
- Processes admission payments using the Point-of-Sale system and handles general receptionist tasks, such as answering phones and running credit card transactions.
- Interacts with patrons and colleagues in a professional and personable manner to maintain a positive environment.
- Ensures compliance with facility and City of Wasilla rules and regulations, effectively communicating them to the public when necessary.
- Performs additional job-related duties and special projects as assigned to support facility operations.
Knowledge of:
- Safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment such as floor scrubber, spray cart or chemical dispensers.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) purpose, use, and maintenance.
- Computer software consistent for this position.
- Administrative policies and procedures of the City.
- The City’s and Department’s operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices; and local, state, and federal regulations related to department programs and operations.

- Organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
