POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain continuous surveillance of people in the Water Park.
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Assistant Water Park Supervisor.
- Recognize and immediately provide rescue in the event of drowning or swimming incidents.
- Perform first aid and CPR according to the demands of adverse situations.
- Assist patrons, answer questions, provide instruction on proper use of equipment, and maintain a professional, friendly attitude.
- Complete records and reports in a timely fashion.
- Find a replacement or substitute for scheduled work hours when necessary.
- Ensure appropriate headcount of people on an hourly basis.
- Assist in cleaning the facility and work areas, including but not limited to: locker rooms, changing rooms, bathrooms, staff rooms, and concessions areas.
- Assist in taking out garbage, picking up trash outside, and cleaning the facility at the end of each shift.
- Participate in regular in-service training-4 hours per month.
- Maintain fitness level (including swimming skills, strength and endurance).
- Keep focus on area of responsibility at all times.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Water Park Supervisor and Water Park Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, training, and certification required.
Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge and application of life-guarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures
- Leadership and public relations skills
- Decision-making skills
Certifications
- Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and First Aid or equivalent

The overall complexity of this position is moderately low. While performing the normal duties of this job, there are related steps, processes, and methods that require this position to recognize clear differences in a variety of situations.
