POSITION SUMMARY
The Electric Distribution Lineman performs semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the City's electrical distribution system and assists other departments as necessary. The lineman assists in the maintenance of power lines, transformers, meters and electrical equipment.

Experience: Minimum one (1) year of similar experience and/or education preferred. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job satisfactorily in accordance with the adopted personnel policies of the City.
Education: A high school diploma or GED and a valid Kansas Driver’s License are required. Employee must be able to obtain a valid Commercial Drivers License within one (1) year of employment and maintain that license. Supplemental training in electric power distribution is preferred.
Technical Skills: This position requires a working knowledge of utility meters and electric power distribution system maintenance and construction is preferred. Employee must be able to operate department equipment, such as backhoe and trencher and portable power tools. Must have good communication skills and have the ability to read, interpret and follow manuals and oral and written instructions.
Working Environment: The lineman works approximately 90% of the time outdoors and 10% of work conducted inside the shop facility. The employee is exposed to adverse weather conditions year round, heavy construction equipment, confined spaces, heights, extreme heat and loud noise levels, chemicals, and works with high voltage electricity/operating accessory equipment is expected.
Employee is required to wear flame resistant protective clothing provided by the City.
Physical Demands: Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to safely operate vehicles, lifting heavy equipment and tools is required. Employee performs manual labor including standing, bending, crawling, climbing, walking, lifting and carrying heavy loads on a daily basis. Employee must have ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Work Hours: Primary working hours are Monday through Friday 7:00am–4:00pm. Hours may vary depending upon department/City needs and adjustments are made to the schedule to accommodate these demands when necessary. The lineman may be asked to work 24/7 on-call rotation, evenings, weekends, and holiday hours, and subject to emergency call outs on short notice may occur.
