NATURE OF POSITION
Oversee and interact with daily golf patrons in a fun, positive, and professional manner while supporting the golf operation through exceptional golf experience for the public. Working as a team with volunteers and other staff members. Observe and enforce safe behaviors while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and excellent customer service to all visitors and participants.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General direction and oversight are provided by the Recreation Coordinator – Golf Course and Recreation Assistant - Golf.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Employees of the City of Walla Walla are expected to model and foster the City’s core values:  Service – Integrity – Collaboration – Equity – Leadership – Community
  2. Comply with the City of Walla Walla's work safety standards and procedures. 
  3. Respond quickly to emergency situations. 
  4. Prepare golf carts for use, which includes cleaning, servicing, and positioning carts; set up any equipment needed.
  5. Wear issued Parks & Recreation staff shirt, sweatshirt or other issued apparel.
  6. Attend all mandatory trainings.
  7. Cashier and assist with accounting for fees collected.
  8. Perform routine custodial and labor work to maintain neat and orderly golf course and building conditions.
  9. Performs miscellaneous maintenance and labor tasks on the golf course under all weather conditions.
  10. Advises golfers of schedules of play and waiting times, course conditions, and course rules.
  11. Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public; provide information as appropriate.

  3. Execute assignments, projects and job responsibilities efficiently and within defined timeframes, work independently and effectively with little direction.
  4. Demonstrate good judgment and employ critical thinking to execute duties, identify issues, seek solutions and recommend improvements in support of departmental goals, at times under pressure.
  5. Assist staff and higher-level management; participate in resolving operational or interpersonal concerns; participate in training, and meetings.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
  7. Respect the value of diversity in the workplace and the community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Administer minor First Aid to ensure they can offer help if an issue arises.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions. 
  • Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency. 
  • Knowledge of golf course. 
  • Interest and experience in working with community members in a caring and patient manner.
  • Operate standard office machines such as computers, word processing and spreadsheet program software, electronic mail systems, internet applications, calculators, copiers, etc.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including ability to follow oral and written instructions.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Golf carts and range equipment.  Standard office machines such as computer terminals, word processing program software, electronic mail systems, internet applications, calculators, copiers, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Walking and standing for extended periods of time; seeing to monitor activities, hearing and speaking to exchange information; repetitive hand movements; intermittently sit, kneel, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, jump, run, reach, push, pull and lift up to 30 lbs. and 50 lbs. with assistance; exposure to fumes and vapors; exposure to sunlight, heat, noise, dust, wind and pollens.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to chemicals, sun or inclement weather conditions; contact with program participants and the public; exposure to noise and distractions; possible contact with dissatisfied individuals; possible exposure to airborne illnesses and bodily fluids. Employee works a flexible schedule which will include evening hours and weekends.  

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 15 years of age; background check completed (if 18 years or above); and Food Handlers Card. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
CPR and First Aid. Bilingual in Spanish. Golf player. Ability to provide golf instruction. MAST alcohol training (if 18 years or above).
