What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heating and Air Conditioning Technician position at City of Virginia Beach?
We are hiring a Heating and Air Conditioning Technician to maintain, diagnose and repair a wide variety of HVAC equipment.
This position will be filled as an HVAC Technician I (G17 $38,584.00 - $59,820.80) or HVAC Technician II (G21 $46,904 - $72,696) depending on qualifications of the selected candidates.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain and repair air handling units, packaged roof top units, gas furnaces, pumps, motors, valves, bearing assemblies, boilers, chillers, exhaust fans, heat pumps, vav units, dedicated outside air units, variable frequency drives, heat exchangers, mini-split systems, hydronic piping systems, geo-thermal heat pumps & VRF systems
- Replace and repair piping, valves & compressors
- Operate building automation systems using a laptop computer
- Clean ductwork, vents, replace air filters & fabricate sheet metal
- Order parts, equipment & supplies
- Contact customers, contractors and vendors. Maintain an open line of communication with them.
- Perform daily building checks on HVAC systems within the assigned buildings. Take corrective and preventive action as appropriate.
The ideal candidate will have broad experience in equipment replacement, including rooftop units, compressors, and water/geo-thermal heat pumps. Proficient in maintaining pumps, motors, gas furnaces, and commercial refrigeration systems, with strong knowledge of building automation systems and variable frequency drives. A self-starter who can independently manage projects from start to finish, with strong communication and customer service skills.
