What are the responsibilities and job description for the ACCOUNTING CLERK PART-TIME position at City of Vero Beach?
Under close supervision, performs a variety of accounting support functions, gathers and posts accounting data, processes accounting transactions, maintains accounting records; and performs related duties as assigned.

Possession of a High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of bookkeeping, accounting or finance experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. An Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college, college or university with a major in Accounting or Finance may substitute for the required experience.

- Prepares, processes and verifies inventory payments, journal entries and accounting reports.
- Verifies and reconciles accounts, such as petty cash, cash clearing, utility billing.
- Verifies and reconciles accounts receivable transactions, such as utility payments, licensing and permit fees and fines.
- Prepares, verifies and reconciles accounts payable transactions such as purchase requisitions and invoices.
- Enters financial data into appropriate accounting and computer systems.
- Maintains records and files associated with various business transactions.
- Opens mail, date stamps
- May perform back-up duties for other positions within the work group.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of payment processing and receipt processing procedures.
- Skill in using computer and application software for financial transactions.
- Skill in using common office machinery and equipment.
- Skill in mathematical computations used in accounting.
- Skill in following written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
OTHER JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:- Work is performed in an office environment.
- Frequent use of computer and peripherals, Microsoft Office and financial software applications, calculator, telephone, fax and copier.
