The City of Vandalia is seeking a second shift Custodian to join its top-tier Parks and Recreation team. Under general supervision, the Custodian performs a variety of unskilled tasks in the custodian care and maintenance of park, recreation, and community buildings. Vandalia Custodians handle a variety of duties. Position requires a varied work schedule including evenings and weekends.
65% - Maintains the safety and security of the buildings; performs a variety of tasks to ensure cleanliness of buildings, restrooms, and other facilities(e.g. scrubs, dusts, wet mops, vacuums, strips, sweeps, waxes floors, empties trash, washes walls and windows, cleans white boards and/or chalkboards, shovels, applies salt, etc.); operates power cleaning equipment(e.g. vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor, floor buffing machine, power washer, etc.); performs other minor maintenance.
15% - May perform lead work in the supervision of assigned part-time custodians(e.g. schedules and assigns tasks; interviews job applicants; recommends the hiring of job applicants; recommends discipline; receives grievances or employee complaints; attends or participates in meetings in which policy questions are reviewed or discussed, etc.)
15% - Opens, closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed; assists with set up and tear down of special events. Attends meetings and serves on committees, as directed; attends trainings and seminars, as directed. Maintains required licensure or certification, if any. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP safety standards that pertain to essential functions. Demonstrates regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
5% - Performs other duties as assigned.
