The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of
Assistant Director of Public Works - Engineering Services/City Engineer
The Assistant Director of Public Works - Engineering Services manages and oversees all programs, activities and operations within the Engineering Services Division of the Public Works Department.
Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:
- Works closely with the Public Works Director to shape the Division priorities, guide strategic planning and advance major initiatives.
- Oversees the City’s Engineering Services Division, including development engineering oversight, capital project planning, civil engineering design, construction management and inspection for streets, utilities, transportation systems and public facilities.
- Assists in developing and implementing department goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Manages and mentors engineering, professional, technical and administrative staff, sets work priorities, monitors work flow and reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures.
- Serves as the City Engineer.

Salary Information
$181,113.45 - $220,122.02/Annually
2% COLA increase is scheduled for 11/01/2026
