What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meter Repairer (Water Distribution) position at City of Tyler?
Provide heavy manual labor to support construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines. Work schedule is Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm, nights, and weekends as required. On-call rotation. Must respond within 30 minutes while on call.
• Repair, remove, replace, raise, set and lower 5/8" through 10" meters.
• Replace, lower, raise and modify meter boxes and lids.
• Repair and replace ¾" through 2" curb cocks, gate valves and copper or poly water services.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains pipes for water lines.
• Must have the ability to use hand tools and small power tools.
• Excavates and backfills trenches, using hand tools.
• Loads and unloads materials and equipment.
• Constructs forms and mixes/pours concrete.
• Drives light trucks and equipment to and from job site.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Must be able to carry out oral and/or written instructions.
• Must be able to drive light or heavy trucks to/from job site.
• Must be able to respond to on-call situations at night.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100-lbs. for several minutes daily. Must be able to climb, reach, bend, crouch, and handle a variety of tools and materials.
• Must be able to stand and walk daily.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with management and employees in person, by telephone, or using a radio.
• Must have basic computer knowledge.
• May stack/rearrange pipes and materials.
• May paint buildings, pipes, and other equipment.
• May clean/sweep floors, walls, and grounds.
• Must be able to work in inclement weather.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Work requires being onsite to perform essential functions.

Education and Experience: Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must have a minimum of six (6) months college, vocational or technical education. Must have over one (1) year of relevant experience. Must possess a TCEQ Class "C" Water Distribution License or have the ability to obtain within 1.5 years of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a clear driving record. May consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
