What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian (Glass Center) position at City of Tyler?
Performs a variety of general building and grounds cleaning/maintenance tasks in an assigned work area: and performs other duties as required. Work schedule will vary, but must be available to work nights and weekends.
- Properly sweep, mop, wax and buff floors of Parkstourism facilities.
- Gather and dispose of all trash and waste.
- Clean restrooms. Wash walls and windows.
- Clean lighting fixtures, tops of windows, door frames.
- Operate and maintain mechanical cleaners and polishers.
- Set up tables, chairs, stages, and other equipment.
- Assist in moving objects.
- Complete delivery of department items.
- Perform grounds maintenance as required.
- Change light bulbs and ceiling tiles with lift.
- Maintain and organize closets and report supply needs.
- Perform building maintenance and/or issues as needed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: - Must have the knowledge of common cleaning tools .Must be able to maintain cleaning equipment.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Work schedule will vary but must be available to work nights and weekends.
- Must be available to overtime if needed.
- Must be able to perform routine repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.
- Must be able to maintain specified area for cleanliness.
- Must be able to move, carry or deliver objects necessary to work areas.
- Must be able to stand 1-hour per duration of task.
- Must be able to walk up to 2-hours perduration of task.
- Must be able to sit up to 30-minutes per duration of task.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50-lbs. Must be able to climb a ladder up to 10-minutes daily. Must be able to balance while performing duties. Must be able to stoop, bend,crouch, crawl, and reach for up to 2-hours a day.
Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED preferred. Plus at least one (1) year of experience performing general cleaning duties, including the use of floor cleaning/maintenance equipment required. A valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License with a clear driving record is preferred. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
