Under the general supervision of the Airport Operations Supervisor, the Airport Tech II is to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks involving custodial and maintenance work in the janitorial care of all Airport facilities and equipment, as needed to maintain a safe, clean, and operational environment. Assist in airfield FAR Part 139 inspection operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Train custodial staff on applicable work practices, equipment usage, and safety training.
2. Maintain the Airport Terminal inside and out to include parking lot areas.
3. Perform some limited minor/routine maintenance/repairs in terminal building and equipment.
4. Perform Airport facility custodial duties which may include, but are not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, shampooing the carpet, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buff floors, removing scuff marks, heavy dirt, scratches, etc.
5. Empty and clean waste receptacles; clean and sanitize restrooms; wash windows; replace burnedout bulbs; clean, maintain, and store equipment. Dust, wax, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork throughout the terminal building, including items such as chairs, tables, desks, banisters, etc.
6. Monitor building temperature to ensure comfortable conditions and advises supervisor when HVAC adjustments may be needed.
7. Monitor all facility amenities for proper operations and report any concerns to the supervisor.
8. Operate power equipment as needed to maintain walks, lawns, or large floors, including landside snow removal equipment as assigned.
9. Operate power equipment such as buffer, sweeper, steam cleaning equipment, blowers, and power washer. To include all hand tools associated with the custodial position.
10. Monitor supplies and stock locations and maintain inventory of supplies.
11. Maintain parking lot equipment and procedures, including but not limited to, cleaning, receipt and ticket replacement, and payment activities.
12. Perform airfield daily inspections according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations and the Airport Certification Manual (ACM).
13. Respond to incidents/accidents and makes appropriate notifications and complete necessary reports and documentation.
14. Perform basic security duties as required under the Airport Security Program, and as directed by the Airport Security Coordinator.
15. May work a variety of shifts and schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, overtime, and on-call. (Considered to be Essential Personnel and is subject to call back for emergencies, weather, or as deemed appropriate by Airport Management).
16. Has regular and reliable attendance.
17. Adheres to the City of Tyler and Departmental policies and procedures as well as safe work practices, policies, and procedures.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Act as an emergency responder.
2. Report security concerns to Airport management and/or Airport Law Enforcement (and may call for assistance as needed).
3. Participate in various aspects of facility emergency operations; participates in terminal emergency drills; learn established procedures for responding to emergency issues.
4. Maintain FAA/ATC/TSA offices.
5. Assist in directing visitors to appropriate locations.
6. Provide excellent customer service to all passengers, public, tenants, and coworkers.
7. May perform security escort responsibilities.
8. Assist in grounds keeping.
9. Assist with mowing.
10. Assist in preventative maintenance of runways and airfields.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
1. Requires the ability to provide excellent customer service.
2. Requires the ability to operate airport vehicles, tools, and equipment.
3. Must be able to work with minimal direct supervision and be accountable to accomplish all assigned tasks.
4. Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract; utilize decimals and percentages.
5. Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
6. Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
7. Requires the ability to perform under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress. May include exposure to disruptive people.
8. Requires general knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in housekeeping and groundskeeping work.
9. Requires some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials.
10. Requires knowledge of airport ground control procedures and perform radio communications with Air Traffic Control (ATC).
11. Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments.
12. Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
13. Requires the ability to perform physical work.
14. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
15. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
16. Must be able to adhere to frequent walking, standing, pushing, bending, reaching, and climbing as well as lifting and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight and varying size and shape.
17. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
18. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
19. Must be able to work inside and outside types of environments. Tasks may require exposure to adverse weather, heat, cold, dust, rain, snow, sleet, hail, strong and/or toxic chemicals, dangerous and/or unpleasant conditions and substances, including noise, asphalt, paint, traffic hazards, vehicular
exhaust fumes.
20. The various duties, responsibilities, and/or assignments of this position may be unevenly balanced and change from time to time based upon matters such as, but not limited to, variations in the shift, work demands, seasons, service levels, and management’s decisions on how to best allocate department
resources.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED); AND Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education and related field experience. 
Advanced knowledge of standard custodial practices and equipment (i.e., power washer, buffer, airport operations, building maintenance, etc.).

Successful completion of Airport Driver Training, Airport Rules and Regulations, Federal Aviation Administration, and Transportation Security Regulations. within 6 months. Completion of training on the operation of small equipment. Prior airport experience is preferred, but not required.

Must be able to pass a 10-year fingerprinted criminal history background check (no criminal convictions, felony, or misdemeanor in the past 10 years) as required by TSA. Must obtain and maintain a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge.

Must speak, read, write, and understand English fluently. Bilingual preferred.

A valid driver’s license, with clear driving record, OR be able to obtain a State of Texas driver’s license within 90 days.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
