The Finance Department is looking for a positive and motivated Accounting Technician to join our team of inspired employees on a part time basis. This position is a great opportunity for a candidate to showcase their experience and knowledge to enhance the Finance team in a technology driven and fast-paced environment. The desired candidate will have an upbeat, can-do attitude that will help us with a range of accounting functions and projects as they relate to accounts payable. The candidate should be self-motivated, and willing to support team members with additional financial tasks including payroll backup and other miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties and responsibilities required of the job. Other duties may be assigned and/or performed. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to: General DutiesResponsible for the maintenance of detailed and organized accounting records and transactions.Audits vendor records for compliance; instructs departments on correct purchasing and invoicing procedures; and works with end-users to resolve discrepancies.Ensures all accounts payable documents are received and properly coded, authorized, and accurately entered for payment based on departmental and City guidelines.Assists in the maintenance and monitoring of expenditure usage to ensure proper entry into the financial system; reports potential problems to appropriate departmental staff and/or management.Administers the City’s credit card (P-Card) program, including reconciling statements and monitoring usage for internal controls and City policies and procedures.Responsible for preparation and filing of monthly Excise Tax Returns and annual Form 1099s.Coordinates with the Fixed Asset/Project Accountant to ensure documentation is being shared in relationship to the Equipment Rental and Replacement program and other capital-related expenses.Provides as primary backup for Payroll Officer, to include regular payroll tasks to stay apprised of payroll functions.Performs accounting tasks as needed to assist Finance staff and management, which may include accounts receivable, treasury/cash handling functions, preparation of monthly expenditure reports, general ledger account reconciliations, assistance with the preparation of the annual financial report and budget, assistance with annual audit, and other areas of need.Works overtime as necessary to achieve departmental goals and as authorized by supervisor.

Contacts: Contacts are primarily with City employees and the public in relating technical information in response to questions or to verify information. Some positions may require contact with individuals under stressful conditions, requiring the ability to explain the City's procedures and requirements in a calm, concise, and courteous manner. May also have contact with vendors of various goods and services.Supervision: General supervision is required for the completion of established procedures and work activities. Jobs in this class require independence and judgment to apply a large body of accounting related rules and regulations to changing circumstances.Accountability: The Accounting Technician is accountable for the accurate and timely completion of tasks. Work is performed according to detailed standard operating procedures requiring the use of judgment in the application of procedures to specific cases.Working Conditions: Positions in this class perform work predominantly under normal office working conditions; extensive time working at a computer station is a regular part of the job. No heavy lifting without assistance is required.Physical Requirements: Work is often performed in an office setting.
