Application and Special Instructions

The vacant positions for Non-Permanent Support Specialists are within the Office of Professional Standards (formerly known as Internal Affairs). These positions are part time only and not benefit-eligible. Incumbents will be primarily tasked with the digitization, organization, and migration of historical investigative records into the newer AXON platform.

This recruitment process will include an application/resume review, with possible screening panel interviews (tentatively scheduled for the week of August 24, 2026). You will be advised via email of your status in the process after each stage.

Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) Terminal Operator Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.

Candidates selected for hire must successfully pass the following:
  • An extensive background investigation, including local, state and national criminal and fingerprint checks
  • Basic Physical
  • Non-National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) drug test
  • 30-lb Lift Test

Position Summary

The Support Specialist position at the City of Tucson’s Police Department performs various administrative tasks related to law enforcement operations. This position supports law enforcement activities by providing non-emergency public service.


Work is performed under the supervision of department leadership in area of assignment. This position does not supervise.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service by answering phones, recording and entering information into a computer, responding to requests for information, gathering details for police reports, and referring callers to appropriate agencies and resources.

  • Utilizes various databases and software to analyze crime programs within the division, providing data driven insights to support strategic review and planning.

  • Maintains and updates police division information related to officer safety, criminal activity, and crime trends and patterns for tracking and reporting purposes.

  • Gathers and analyzes department statistics and crime trends for crime prevention efforts, deployment of departmental resources and public dissemination.

  • Coordinates the marketing and release of information regarding department events, outreach, and programs through internal teams and external partners.

  • Assists with case file management, including reviewing retention cycles and purging processes.

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions

Mostly office environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

Five (5) years of relevant experience

Equivalency

Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

License/Certifications
