The Troy Public Library is an important part of the vibrant, dynamic, and diverse City of Troy which serves an educated and involved community. Being engaged with up-to-date technology is a priority and a value to Library staff, residents, and businesses.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for public librarianship, dedication to customer service, cultural literacy, and the desire to help lead the department and the library into the future as an integral part of the City of Troy.


DUTIES

  • Create, plan, promote, and implement library programs for teens ages 13-18.
  • Participate in Teen outreach activities on and off-site, including shifts on the library’s Bookmobile.
  • Participate in the selection, development, marketing, and evaluation of the library’s Teen Services collection.
  • Supervise Teen Advisory Board meetings and activities.
  • Maintain relationships with schools to promote teen programs and materials.
  • Assist with the planning, preparation, and coordination of the Teen Summer Library Program.
  • Assist with maintenance of Teen Advisory Board website and social media.
  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services in person or via phone/email to Adult and Teen Information Services patrons.
  • Act as on-duty staff in charge of the building as needed on evenings and weekends, making decisions regarding library security, policy, emergency procedures, customer service, and conflict resolution.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master of Library Science degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Minimum one (1) year full-time experience (or equivalent of one-year experience) as an Adult Information Services Librarian.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service to a sophisticated, diverse community.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electronic databases, Microsoft Office applications, and mobile technology, especially as it relates to eBooks and other digital resources.
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). Out of state applicants must provide current driving record at time of application and obtain State of Michigan license within one month of appointment.
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).

PREFERENCES

  • Two (2) years full-time experience (or equivalent of two years experience) as an Adult Information Services Librarian in a public library setting.
  • Experience with Polaris Library System software.
  • Experience managing a website and social media.
  • Experience with planning and coordinating library programs, especially STEM-based.
  • Experience with collection management in a public library setting.

HOURS: Full-time, year-round. Forty (40) hours per week. Schedule will include day, evening, and weekend shifts.
