The Department
This position is located in the Department of General Services. This Department provides quality services that support City departments in a manner which enable them to carry-out their community missions and provide these services in a cost-effective and efficient manner which best serves the operational needs of City departments and the community.
Responsibilities of the General Services Department include: Airport Administration, Building Maintenance, Central Services, Cultural Arts Center Administration, Custodial, Fleet Services, Graffiti Abatement Program, HVAC / Electrical, and Warehouse.
The PositionEquipment Attendants work at the City Service Facility maintaining, lubricating, fueling, cleaning, and assisting in the repair of various City vehicles and equipment in accordance with manufactures specifications; replaces, repairs and balances tires and tubes; inspects and adjusts air and hydraulic brake systems; and checks, repairs or replaces lights, mirrors, wiper blades, oil, air and fuel filters, and other vehicle parts requiring routine maintenance. This individual also performs routine preventative and maintenance work; assists Mechanics in more complex service and repair of vehicles and equipment; and performs related work as required.

Hours:
You must be able to work any shift between 12:00PM to 10:30PM. You must be available to work overtime as necessary.
Equipment Attendants are required to work 10 hours a day, four (4) days a week (4/10 schedule).Education and Experience
Two years of experience in lubrication, tire repair, general vehicle and equipment maintenance or repair. No specific education minimum, however, vocational training in the overall repair of vehicles is desirable.
License and/or Certificates
A valid Class B California driver's license within six weeks of hire date.
Successful candidates will possess the following:
- A mechanical background;
- A background working with alternative fuels (i.e. CNG, Hybrid vehicles);
- Ability to read and understand maintenance and specification manuals.

Only those candidates who best meet the City and Department's needs will be invited to participate in the examination process, which will consist of the following components:
Performance Test: Weighted 70% (Tentatively scheduled on Wednesday, January 7, 2025.)
Panel Interview: Weighted 30% (Tentatively scheduled on Wednesday, January 7, 2025.)
The test date will be based on a sufficient number of qualified applications received.
The performance test will measure a candidate's ability to perform typical tasks required of an Automotive Service Attendant.
In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between TME-AFSCME and the City of Torrance, new employees covered under that memorandum shall become members in good standing and pay the required service fee to said Local.
Positions under this classification perform "Safety Sensitive" functions as defined by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and are subject to Federal drug and alcohol testing. Pursuant to the US DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations – 49 CFR Part 40, Federal Regulations do not authorize the use of Schedule 1 drugs, including marijuana and Cannabidiol (CBD) products, for any reason.

Salary : $3,978 - $5,080
