JOB SUMMARY

Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of duties pertaining to consumption data collection of gas, water and electric meters to provide monthly readings to utility customers while complying with all rules set forth by Thomasville Utilities.

The employee in this position reports to the Utility Services Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)

  • Monthly data collection or “meter reading” of approximately 30,000 residential and commercial gas, water and electric meters.
  • Inspecting, documenting and reporting maintenance concerns, suspicious tampering or damages of all meters as they are encountered.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and mechanically safe vehicle.
  • Maintains operational inventory of assigned tools, test equipment and materials.
  • Maintain Thomasville Utilities standards of appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Performs all duties safely in accordance with Thomasville Utilities safety policies, training outlines and procedures.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions to immediate supervisor for correction.
  • Satisfactorily able to meet outlined job expectations for promotion to Utilities Services Technician Level II within one year of employment. Promotion to Level II will include weekly on-call rotation as defined by supervisor and require submission to random drug screening requirements per Federal Gas regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be in possession of and maintain a valid driver’s license with a driving record meeting the requirements outlined by Thomasville Utility’s Driver Safety Standards.
  • Must be physically able to walk continually for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be physically able to perform job duties in annual outdoor environment.
  • Must be physically able to bend, kneel, squat and lift weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be self-motivated individual, working under minimal supervision to complete daily routes as assigned.
  • Must maintain excellent relationships with internal and external customers to create and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction with the company and its services to the public.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Manual tasks that the employee is expected to perform will include, but is not limited to the following: lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing and walking for prolonged periods.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The primary work environment of this position is outside; the candidate will be exposed to all weather conditions and will on occasion be required to perform manual tasks. Exposure to animals on their home territory is frequent.
