JOB SUMMARY
Performs a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of the Development Services Department; resolves permit or project related issues; provides information and direction to the public on building issues relating to processes and requirements; receives, reviews, routes and processes applications and permits; coordinates building plan review and inspection issues; uses specialized database/permit tracking management programs; performs administrative duties associated to permitting, such as facilitating consultant invoicing, reporting and financial reconciliation; and performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)
- Oversee project document in-take for all residential and commercial permit inquiries and applications from owners, builders, contractors, and public.
- Verifies contractor’s license and maintains a list of licensed contractors.
- Establish and tracks documents in our Cityworks project management software.
- Calculates permit application fees and provides the fee information to Cashiering for them to collect.
- Issues permit to customers once payment is received via email or in-person.
- Schedules building inspections and ensures all documentation is in place before scheduling.
- Tracks Zoning, Building, and Engineering Dept. approval for each project.
- Process and issues all Trade permit applications.
- Manages temporary power agreement renewal and billing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Experience working in construction field preferred but not necessary.
- Must be able to achieve an ICC Permit Technician Certification within the first year of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be skilled in effective and positive communication
- Must have the necessary technical knowledge/skills/abilities to be able to calculate permit fees and some construction calculations.
- Troubleshooting skills are a must
- Must be comfortable with working with team and individual settings
- Must have knowledge of and implement best practices for building permit process
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows
- Must be willing to learn new software programs that apply to the position
- Must be willing to occasionally travel to conferences and training classes
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
This position requires working in an office setting sitting and viewing computer monitors for extended periods of time. Occasional this position may require some work related outdoor activities.
