POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Certified Mechanic
City of The Dalles

DEFINITION: Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks involving maintenance, repairs and modifications to motor vehicles, generators, construction equipment and small engines. Evaluates condition of equipment and prepares reports and maintenance schedules. May be called upon to perform equipment operations necessary to the construction and maintenance of City streets and alleyways, as well as building maintenance. Operates and maintains equipment necessary to achieving these service objectives. This and all City Employees are public servants. As such, employees are expected to follow City policy and maintain the highest professional conduct. In accepting employment with the City of The Dalles, employees are expected to maintain a positive public image.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Minimum Requirements:
TRAINING: High School Graduation (or equivalent) is required. Additional vocational training in automotive and/or heavy machinery mechanics and repair is desired.
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience as a mechanic or a mechanic's helper is desired. Developed skills in the operation, maintenance and repair of construction equipment necessary to this job.
CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSES:
A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "Tanker" endorsement within six (6) months of the time of hire is desired. Is required within twelve (12) months of time of hire.
DOT Brake Inspector Certification within six (6) months of hire. A Section 609 EPA certificate for automotive air conditioning maintenance within six (6) months of hire.
PAY: $61,927.72 to $73,944.94 annually, plus generous benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision insurances and employer-paid retirement contributions equal to 13.5% of base wage after one year of employment.
