Position: SCADA Technician

Salary: $26.56 - $29.22
Under the direction of the Mechanical Engineer, this position performs skilled technical work that establishes and maintains the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for the Agency. Employees in this role possess knowledge of SCADA system support and maintenance, SCADA communications, electronic control systems, water plant operations and general PC and computer network support. This position performs activities falling within the areas of configuring, programming, and administering SCADA systems, and SCADA end user support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Maintains application updates on SCADA host system including SCADA graphics.
- Coordinates SCADA changes with Operations, I&C technicians and others, as needed.
- Maintains SCADA communications, configuring routers, firewalls, and device servers for industrial protocols communications.
- Has basic knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus.
- Has basic knowledge of PLCs and similar devices.
- Installs SCADA related hardware in the data centers and in the field.
- Participates in research and development concerning SCADA design functions.
- Participates in developing specifications and related documentation concerning equipment bids.
- Performs and supervises SCADA maintenance and support work, ensuring Agency quality and programming standards are followed.
- Participates in SCADA upgrades.
- Identifies and resolves SCADA systems problems.
- Coordinates software updates and solutions with SCADA system vendor.
- Contributes to documentation of SCADA network and general system schematics; evaluates SCADA systems performance and prepares documentation of same.
- Performs data requests, as needed, for SCADA data; collects data for troubleshooting, reporting and compliance monitoring.
- Works with other IT Systems staff to ensure the security of the SCADA system and connected critical infrastructure.
- Participates in configurating the SCADA historian system.
- Periodically tests redundancy capabilities of SCADA systems.
- Supports member governments’ staff view of Agency’s SCADA system.
- Performs and supervises general PC and computer network maintenance and support, as well as end user support, for assigned areas.
- Performs other related work as directed.
TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate of Science or Associate of Arts degree in Electronics Technology, Computer Technology or Engineering or related field; or
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in configuring, programming and administering Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems (water production system experience preferred).
- Experience with general PC and Network Technical Support in a Microsoft environment, computer data networking with TCP/IP.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Florida Driver's License
