Position: Facilities Maintenance

Salary: $23.33 - $25.66 per hour
This is responsible work in specialized construction and maintenance activities within one or more of the Divisions in the Public Works Department. Responsibilities require the scheduling and supervision of employees in subordinate positions, management of equipment and supplies needed for daily for daily operation and special projects; inspections for violations of applicable City codes and periodic reports as required.
Duties are performed with considerable independence under general supervision. Performance evaluation is based upon work while in progress and upon completion, by review of records and reports and by periodic conferences with the Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of building maintenance and repair work.
- Working knowledge of a variety of building construction and trades (e.g. carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, etc.).
- Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with building maintenance, repair, and construction.
- Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used in carpentry and building maintenance trades.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles, including trucks; climb ladders and work in high places.
- Some knowledge of basic record keeping.
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and sketches; determine materials needs and estimate job time.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials; lifting of objects up to 75 pounds and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds overhead.
- Ability to learn the City’s geographical area.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks as a trades helper or handyman in one of the building trades.
- Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
- Completion of a minimum of 850 hours in a structured training program in Building Construction Technology, Building Maintenance, or an equivalent curriculum; or ability to obtain approved training and successfully complete the course within one year of employment.
