POSITION: CIVIL ENGINEER
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $105,000 annually

DEPT: UTILITIES
The major functions of this position is supervising and participating in a variety of engineering assignments of more than average difficulty, which may include development review, construction inspection, or maintenance projects, as well as traffic engineering and related activities for the City. This position will also act as a project coordinator for capital improvement projects as well as be responsible for the drafting of design plans, development of contract specifications, development of proposals for advertisement, contract reviews, review of engineering plans, assistance with field inspections, and other duties as required. Additionally, this position is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgement regarding work methods and formulation of recommendations to meet the department’s needs.
Work is performed under the City Engineer’s direction and is reviewed through observation, conferences,
reports, and results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Knowledge of civil engineering practices and principles including survey, drafting techniques, design, and construction.
- Working knowledge of engineering practices and principles regarding traffic engineering.
- Ability to apply engineering knowledge to address technical infrastructure needs.
- Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office suite as well as various engineering software programs such as AutoCAD and GIS.
- Ability to prepare specifications and contract documents for capital projects.
- Ability to manage/coordinate engineering projects from the inception of design through construction completion.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with engineers, contractors, employees, and the public.
- Ability to coordinate, assign, supervise, and review the work of others engaged in a variety of engineering assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Training, Certification, and Experience
- Licensed Professional Engineer within the State of Florida or the ability to obtain such licensure within six (6) months from date of employment.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in civil engineering.
- Experience within the civil engineering field related to public works and transportation preferred.
- Or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid Florida driver's license.
- In the event of an emergency or natural/manmade disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by Emergency Management or City Administration.
- Such assignments may be before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.
