Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Environmental Scientist to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will manage environmental compliance programs for the City's Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Facility, helping to protect public health and the environment in a City of nearly 30,000 residents. This position may also assist with environmental compliance programs in the wastewater utility, depending on program needs. In this role, you will schedule sampling events, review contract laboratory results, write reports to satisfy permit and FAC rule requirements, and ensure accurate reporting to state regulatory agencies, including FDEP and the SWFWMD. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence environmental compliance initiatives in the drinking water sector, including responding to new and emerging regulations such as Lead and Copper Rule Revision, PFAS, among others.
Note that this position is part of a multi-level job family, and may be filled at the Environmental Inspector, Environmental Scientist, or Senior Environmental Scientist Level, based on qualifications and experience. Responsibilities
- Applies scientific methods and principles in the areas of environmental and water quality monitoring, and environmental compliance with applicable water and wastewater regulations and permit requirements. .
- Manages and conducts regular environmental compliance sampling required by applicable environmental regulations and utility operating permits and to support special projects.
- Supports and administers environmental compliance programs for water and wastewater utilities.
- Conducts inspections, reviews environmental and water quality data, writes and submits compliance reports.
- Coordinates and communicates with applicable state and local regulators (meetings, inspections, investigations etc.). Investigates citizen complaints and other concerns.
- Collects and reviews water and sewer operational data.
- Coordinates water quality and environmental sampling and analysis with contracted laboratories as required.
- Collects environmental data and analyzes and evaluates data to reach sound conclusions.
- Reviews permits, rules, and procedures regarding environmental compliance.
- Reviews, checks, and interprets scientific and environmental reports.
- Prepares clear, complete, and technically accurate reports.
Minimum Qualifications (Environmental Scientist Level: Mid-level)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences or related discipline.
- Four years of related environmental compliance, testing and reporting experience in the water and wastewater field or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience directly related to environmental compliance for water or wastewater utilities strongly preferred.
Pay: $64,810.25 - $103,670.50 per year
