Performs routine technical activities related to the inspection, maintenance, and construction of public services systems. Operates a variety of tools, vehicles, and equipment to accomplish assignments. Interacts and communicates with departmental supervisors and leaders, personnel, and the public during daily assignments. Work usually requires maintaining close engineering tolerances. 
 
Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to Water Distribution Supervisor.

Installs, inspects, cleans, maintains, and repairs the city water distribution and wastewater systems and related appurtenances per established standards and guidelines. 
 
Performs a variety of technical and maintenance duties including but not limited to maintaining water mains and service lines (water and sewer), fire hydrants, water meters, and appurtenances.
 
Reads water meters per established/routed schedule and records data via handheld processor; loads and downloads information to the city’s information system per meter routes and work orders.
 
Locates valves in water mains to perform repairs; operates de-watering pumps and makes service taps.
 
Performs manual excavations of earth at job sites. 
 
Investigates water usage, restores services as directed, and tests water for chlorine levels.
 
Maintains accurate records of work in progress and completed; notes and records any deficiencies of installations and appurtenances throughout utility system.
 
Ensures the establishment of safe work zones and compliance with all applicable safety requirements; sets up Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) at field sites, such as traffic cones, signs, and arrow boards to ensure proper traffic control and safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
 
Operates and maintains a variety of equipment such as vehicle, trucks, trailers, power tools, plumbing tools, pumps, generators, jet rodder, jet trailer, pressure cleaner, valve exercising machine, and torches.
 
Adheres to all City and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
 
Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.
 
Maintains quality communication and interaction with all City employees, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive City image.
 
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in water or wastewater system maintenance, irrigation systems, plumbing or stormwater maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. 
 
Required Certifications and Licenses
Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire, a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) and maintain the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. 
 
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities. 
 
Within one (1) year of hire, must participate in Trench Safety Training.

Salary : $42,000 - $45,000
