GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the Auxiliary Officer performs a variety of patrol and other tasks in support of the Police Department (non-criminal enforcement) including, limited patrol operations, traffic control, and report writing.
QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications:
Completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school diploma or GED); or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license. Must remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
Essential Functions of the Position:
1. Directs traffic at events and emergencies, safely crosses pedestrians, operates patrol vehicle and other vehicles, may occasionally run radar/ lidar in non-enforcement capacity, moves and sets up traffic trailer, may issue parking citations.
2. Patrols multipurpose trail, parks, special events, parades, athletic events, plazas, and neighborhoods in a non-enforcement capacity, reports suspicious conditions or individuals to watch commander.
3. Conduct the house checks, jail inspections, document, court records, and evidence pick-ups and deliveries; Transports documents to and from courts, City building, etc.
4. Completes and submits inspection reports as required; conducts prisoner checks; may pick-up and deliver prisoner meals; conducts checks of resident’s houses when residents are temporarily out of town on vacation, business trips, etc.; reports suspicious conditions or individuals to watch commander.
5. Participates in the redirection of youth from the formal processing of the juvenile court; interacts with the juvenile’s parents, guardians, school staff, school resource officer, neighborhood-based organizations, or human service agencies; may participate in the Post-Dispositional Supervision; establishes clear goals and objectives with the juvenile to address a behavior change.
6. Attends meetings and serves on committees, as required; attends various meetings, seminars, and workshops.
7. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay: From $12.50 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 29.0 per week
